(UWRF file photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Dairy science, animal science programs, along with others, recognized for excellent instruction and outcomes<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Agriculture programs at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls have placed first and second nationally in recent college rankings, evidence of the university\u2019s renowned agriculture coursework.<\/p>\n<p>The university\u2019s\u00a0<a id=\"https:\/\/www.uwrf.edu\/programs\/dairy-science|\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uwrf.edu\/programs\/dairy-science\">dairy science program<\/a>\u00a0is the top program of its kind among U.S. colleges, according to\u00a0<a id=\"https:\/\/www.collegeraptor.com\/Majors\/Details\/1.0905\/Level\/Bachelors-degree\/State\/All\/Dairy-Science\/|\" href=\"https:\/\/www.collegeraptor.com\/Majors\/Details\/1.0905\/Level\/Bachelors-degree\/State\/All\/Dairy-Science\/\">College Raptor,<\/a>\u00a0a college search and comparison organization. UWRF placed second nationally in the\u00a0<a id=\"https:\/\/www.collegeraptor.com\/Majors\/Details\/1.0901\/Level\/Bachelors-degree\/State\/All\/Animal-Sciences-General\/|\" href=\"https:\/\/www.collegeraptor.com\/Majors\/Details\/1.0901\/Level\/Bachelors-degree\/State\/All\/Animal-Sciences-General\/\">Best Colleges for Animal Science, General<\/a>\u00a0category, placing behind only Kansas State and ahead of larger universities well known for their strong agriculture programs.<\/p>\n<p>UWRF received high national rankings in other categories as well. The university ranked\u00a0<a id=\"https:\/\/www.collegeraptor.com\/Majors\/Details\/13.1301\/Level\/Bachelors-degree\/State\/All\/Agricultural-Teacher-Education\/|\" href=\"https:\/\/www.collegeraptor.com\/Majors\/Details\/13.1301\/Level\/Bachelors-degree\/State\/All\/Agricultural-Teacher-Education\/\">seventh in the agriculture teacher education<\/a>\u00a0category,\u00a0<a id=\"https:\/\/www.collegeraptor.com\/Majors\/Details\/1.1102\/Level\/Bachelors-degree\/State\/All\/Agronomy-and-Crop-Science\/|\" href=\"https:\/\/www.collegeraptor.com\/Majors\/Details\/1.1102\/Level\/Bachelors-degree\/State\/All\/Agronomy-and-Crop-Science\/\">17th in agronomy and crop science<\/a>,\u00a0<a id=\"https:\/\/www.collegeraptor.com\/Majors\/Details\/1.1001\/Level\/Bachelors-degree\/State\/All\/Food-Science\/|\" href=\"https:\/\/www.collegeraptor.com\/Majors\/Details\/1.1001\/Level\/Bachelors-degree\/State\/All\/Food-Science\/\">35th in food science<\/a>, and\u00a0<a id=\"https:\/\/www.collegeraptor.com\/Majors\/Details\/1\/Level\/Bachelors-degree\/State\/All\/Agriculture-General\/|\" href=\"https:\/\/www.collegeraptor.com\/Majors\/Details\/1\/Level\/Bachelors-degree\/State\/All\/Agriculture-General\/\">62nd in the Best College for Agriculture\u00a0<\/a>category.<\/p>\n<p>The rankings are based on multiple factors, including the number of degrees awarded, acceptance rate, the cost of attending college, and median starting salary.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Orth, dean of the\u00a0<a id=\"https:\/\/www.uwrf.edu\/academics\/cafes|\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uwrf.edu\/academics\/cafes\">College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences<\/a>\u00a0(CAFES), said the high rankings for the university\u2019s agriculture programs are a sign of UWRF\u2019s top-notch instruction and coursework. Hands-on learning opportunities in ag programs provide students with a more thorough understanding of topics, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese rankings are a testament to the great faculty and staff that make sure our students receive a high-impact, experiential learning-based education both in and outside the classroom,\u201d Orth said.<\/p>\n<p>Student success is nothing new for CAFES students. UWRF is well known nationally for its strong agriculture programs and its students\u00a0<a id=\"https:\/\/www.uwrf.edu\/News\/UW-River-Falls-teams-take-top-awards-at-national-competitions.cfm|\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uwrf.edu\/News\/UW-River-Falls-teams-take-top-awards-at-national-competitions.cfm\">routinely place well at national ag-related competitions,\u00a0<\/a>often outperforming students from larger, more acclaimed schools.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Kelm, chair of UWRF\u2019s Animal and Food Science Department and a professor of animal and dairy science, said students in the university\u2019s agriculture programs benefit from a strong curriculum and faculty who are dedicated to enabling students to achieve their full potential. Their approach of striving for excellence has led to UWRF consistently ranking as one of the nation\u2019s top agriculture schools, alongside such larger, acclaimed programs as Kansas State, Iowa State and Penn State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy colleagues have a strong and genuine interest in the students who we work with every day,\u201d Kelm said. \u201cOur faculty and staff put a lot of time and effort into teaching and preparing students for their next stage in life, wherever that may be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>UWRF students receive a high value for the cost of their education, Orth said, noting that attending UWRF\u00a0<a id=\"https:\/\/blog.collegevine.com\/cheapest-colleges-in-wisconsin|\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.collegevine.com\/cheapest-colleges-in-wisconsin\">costs less than<\/a>\u00a0many other Wisconsin colleges and universities.
