(UW-Whitewater photo\/Craig Schreiner)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Thousands of people visited the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater during the summer of 2024 as the Whitewater and Rock County campuses hosted scores of events between the spring and fall semesters.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 6,330 campers and 700 camp counselors participated in the university\u2019s 67 summer programs. Another 5,538 people were served through events run by external partners, including the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/news\/archive\/2024-01-special-olympics\">Special Olympics Wisconsin Summer Games<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dci.org\/events\/2024-the-whitewater-classic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Drum Corps International Whitewater Classic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>UW-Whitewater\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/fye\">First Year Experience<\/a>\u00a0office welcomed 2,182 students and 2,493 guests for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/fye\/freshmen\/register\">Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration<\/a>\u00a0(SOAR). The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/admissions\">Department of Admissions<\/a>\u00a0held three preview days and 126 campus tours over the summer for prospective students and their family members and guests, attracting another 3,279 visitors to campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was an incredible summer at UW-Whitewater, and I\u2019m so proud that nearly 20,000 people visited our campuses,\u201d said Chancellor Corey A. King. \u201cWe have a vibrant community, and it was on full display across the wonderful plethora of events we hosted. I\u2019d like to thank our students, event volunteers, faculty, and staff, including our camps and conferences office, for fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment for learning and engagement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Summer at UW-Whitewater 2024\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cFAPhlI1Q8Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>With offerings in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/ce\/camps\/athletic\">athletics<\/a>, arts and STEM, camps remain a vital part of the campus experience at UW-Whitewater. Camps that continued strong traditions of participation in 2024 included\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/ce\/camps\/music\/bandcamp\">band<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/ce\/camps\/athletic\/football\">football<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/ce\/camps\/athletic\/volleyball\">volleyball<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/ce\/camps\/athletic\/tenniscamps\">tennis<\/a>\u00a0camps, while several camps emerged as popular choices in 2024, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/ce\/camps\/music\/musicaltheatrecamp\">musical theatre<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/ce\/camps\/music\/pianocamp\">piano<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/ce\/camps\/athletic\/bowling\/collegeprepbowling\">college prep bowling<\/a>. UW-Whitewater at Rock County\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/ce\/camps\/athletic\/volleyball\/rockallskillsvb\">all skills volleyball<\/a>\u00a0camp, which takes place this week, is at maximum capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Inclusivity and belonging are part of the priority mission of UW-Whitewater; summer camps put the mission into practice by providing events like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/ce\/camps\/athletic\/basketball\/bballwheelchair\">wheelchair basketball camp<\/a>, hosted by coaches who are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/news\/archive\/2024-03-wheelchair-bball-national-champions\">national champion team<\/a>\u00a0members and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.paralympic.org\/paris-2024\">2024 Paralympians<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/ce\/camps\/additional\/chatter\">Chatter Matters<\/a>, a camp serving individuals who use assistive communication devices and their families. UW-Whitewater maintains a 1:10 ratio of camp staff to camper for all youth programming and prides itself in youth protection training for all faculty, staff, coaches, and volunteers involved in leading programming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCamp is a special place filled with new and old friends, familiar activities and new experiences, and opportunities for people of all abilities to build life skills,\u201d said Morgan Anderson, director of camps and conferences. \u201cFor more than 50 years, we\u2019ve worked hard to provide affordable, life-changing experiences for our patrons. We strive to have something for everyone to explore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Registration for the 2025 camps season will begin in January. Music, athletic and academic events for youth are also held throughout the academic year.
