The University of Wisconsin-Superior\u00a0Educational Success Center<\/a>\u00a0has been awarded certification as a Level 1 certified tutor training program by the internationally recognized College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).<\/p>\n

\u201cUW-Superior students can feel confident that the tutor they work with is knowledgeable and will treat them with the kindness and empathy they hope to receive,\u201d said\u00a0Trish Allen<\/a>, tutoring & testing coordinator with the Educational Success Center at UW-Superior. \u201cUWS Peer Educators \u2013 which include both Peer Tutors, who offer tutoring in a variety of courses, and Embedded Tutors, who are assigned to specific courses \u2013 support students through their learning in the long-term, focusing on mastering content, growth mindset, and critical thinking. This certificate provides evidence of the standards that the Peer Educators are held to, and what the students who seek their services and support can expect.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is the first time UW-Superior has received this certification, which was a three-year process to ensure the tutoring program meets internationally recognized standards.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am excited for the opportunity this provides for current and future Peer Educators,\u201d said Allen. \u201cNow that the Educational Success Center has Level 1 CRLA Certification, I can bestow certification to individual Peer Educators who meet the standards of selection, training, direct experience and evaluation. This provides the Peer Educators the opportunity to build their resume and CV in a way that we haven\u2019t been able to provide at UWS before.\u201d<\/p>\n

For more than 30 years CRLA has been a leader in learning assistance, reading, and academic support programs with almost 1,300 members and over 2,000 certified training programs worldwide.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Educational Success Center has worked hard to develop a tutor training program that meets CRLA\u2019s rigorous standards and has successfully completed the International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) peer review process,\u201d said Allen.<\/p>\n

Achieving certification means that the Educational Success Center has met CRLA\u2019s high standards for tutor selection, training, direct service and evaluation as an integral part of its overall tutoring program.<\/p>\n

The mission of the\u00a0Educational Success Center<\/a>\u00a0is to support all enrolled UW-Superior students, whether in-person or online, by providing resources and advocacy to foster academic success, enhance student retention, and promote graduation.<\/em><\/p>\n
