{"id":10295,"date":"2023-11-30T09:21:00","date_gmt":"2023-11-30T15:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/all-in-wisconsin-new\/?post_type=campus_story&#038;p=10295"},"modified":"2023-11-30T09:21:00","modified_gmt":"2023-11-30T15:21:00","slug":"pioneer-athletics-announces-exclusive-partnership-with-southwest-healths-orthopedic-institute","status":"publish","type":"campus_story","link":"https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/all-in-wisconsin\/story\/pioneer-athletics-announces-exclusive-partnership-with-southwest-healths-orthopedic-institute\/","title":{"rendered":"Pioneer Athletics announces exclusive partnership with Southwest Health\u2019s Orthopedic Institute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/all-in-wisconsin-new\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/378\/2023\/11\/PLT_partnership_Pioneers-Southwest-Health_0.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10296\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/all-in-wisconsin-new\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/378\/2023\/11\/PLT_partnership_Pioneers-Southwest-Health_0.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Pioneer Sports Medicine facility\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/all-in-wisconsin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/378\/2023\/11\/PLT_partnership_Pioneers-Southwest-Health_0.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/all-in-wisconsin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/378\/2023\/11\/PLT_partnership_Pioneers-Southwest-Health_0-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/all-in-wisconsin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/378\/2023\/11\/PLT_partnership_Pioneers-Southwest-Health_0-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced Wednesday an exclusive partnership with Southwest Health\u2019s Orthopedic Institute and the Pioneer Sport Medicine and Sport Performance departments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Southwest Health\u2019s Orthopedic Institute is the region\u2019s most advanced bone, joint and sports medicine program and will serve all 16 UW-Platteville NCAA DIII sports and its 600-plus student-athletes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWhen we entered into our partnership with Southwest Health in 2020 as a preferred provider, CEO Dan Rohrbach and Pioneer Athletics shared a common vision for future growth,\u201d said Dr. Kristina Navarro, assistant chancellor and director of Athletics and Recreation at UW-Platteville.\u00a0\u201cThe timing is right to take the next step in this relationship.\u00a0I am thrilled that we will be able to provide a transformational experience for our student-athletes in partnership with Southwest Health and the Orthopedic Institute.\u00a0This relationship will continue to enhance our profile of competitive excellence via a best-in-class student-athlete patient care model.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Rohrbach echoed Dr. Navarro\u2019s thoughts and continued, \u201cIn addition to the athletic training services we provide in the area to seven different high schools, we have always valued our partnership with Pioneer Athletics.\u00a0The talent of our Orthopedic team is unparalleled in communities of our size.\u00a0Southwest Health\u2019s Orthopedic Institute is led by a team of the area\u2019s only all Fellowship-Trained Orthopedic Physicians.\u00a0We couldn\u2019t be happier to now offer UW-Platteville student-athletes the same level of expertise that typically is only granted to large NCAA Division I programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The partnership will\u00a0include an infrastructure change to position the head athletic trainer as the primary liaison with Southwest Health\u2019s Orthopedic Institute. This will include weekly logistical meetings, Southwest Health doctors as official sideline team doctors and streamlined referral process to better serve the student-athletes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Orthopedic Institute is the region\u2019s premier orthopedic experts, having the latest techniques and equipment, including robotic-assisted joint replacement technology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Dr. Joshua Lindsey has recently been joined by Dr. Alex Strassman, who like Dr. Lindsey, is sub-specialty fellowship-trained in sports medicine. Both serve as team physicians for the Pioneers, working hand in hand with the Pioneer Sports Medicine and Sports Performance staffs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;I am excited for the opportunity to grow our relationship with the Platteville community through our commitment to taking care of UW-Platteville student-athletes. Through my fellowship training in orthopedic sports medicine, I&#8217;ve gained valuable experience in catering care specific for student-athletes \u2013 whether on the sidelines or in the operating room.
