UW-Superior’s transportation and logistics and supply chain management programs hosted 17 Superior High School students for Transportation Day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Recently, the transportation and logistics and supply chain management programs at UW-Superior hosted 17 Superior High School students for Transportation Day.<\/p>\n

\u201cTransportation and logistics management<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0supply chain management<\/a>\u00a0faculty had the idea of creating an on-campus event for high school students where they could learn more about the transportation, logistics and supply chain industries as well as employment opportunities in the Twin Ports region and beyond,\u201d said\u00a0Daniel Rust<\/a>, associate professor of transportation and logistics management.<\/p>\n

The event began with Rust providing an overview of the transportation, logistics and supply chain management industries in Twin Ports and details about transportation and logistics and supply chain management majors at UW-Superior. He was also able to give a sampling of the employment opportunities in Twin Port and beyond.<\/p>\n

After a brief overview of the UW-Superior admissions process, Superior High School students took part in a hands-on supply chain activity with\u00a0Khadija Ajmal<\/a>, assistant professor of transportation and logistics.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis activity involved small groups of students figuring out the correct sequencing of the supply chain steps for producing and distributing a milk chocolate bar,\u201d said Rust.<\/p>\n

The students also got to meet with current UW-Superior students about their experience in the transportation and logistics and supply chain management programs, along with internship opportunities and student clubs available on campus.<\/p>\n

The day concluded with a tour of Halvor Lines, which provides trucking, transportation and logistics services throughout the United States and Canada.<\/p>\n

\u201cStudents said they most enjoyed visiting with current transportation and logistics management students and touring Halvor Lines,\u201d said Rust. \u201cThe students expressed amazement that transportation is much more complicated than they had imagined and there are abundant employment opportunities in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n
