(UW Oshkosh)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A new automation engineering degree at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh fills a significant manufacturing need in Wisconsin for engineering professionals with programming skills.<\/p>\n<p>UW Oshkosh is the first in the UW System to offer the program, which complements UWO\u2019s existing engineering technology offerings and boosts research, economic development, entrepreneurship and sustainability in northeastern Wisconsin and beyond.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_117228\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-117228 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/uwosh.edu\/today\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/52993450754_0f3c4f47b9_c-192x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"192\" height=\"240\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-117228\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-117228\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Provost Ed Martini<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThis is a great example of UW Oshkosh responding to the needs of the region and training our students for the future economy,\u201d said UWO Provost Ed Martini. \u201cThis new program helps our students and their families reimagine what a career in today\u2019s high-tech manufacturing sector looks like. The future of manufacturing will be driven by software, programming and automation, and this program will help students build those skills.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following approval by the UW System Board of Regents in early July, current students will begin taking classes in the 129-credit major this fall with the official launch set for fall 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Automation engineering is the second engineering offering at UWO approved this year; Regents gave the green light to a biomedical engineering degree in March.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_88633\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-88633 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/uwosh.edu\/today\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/kleinheinz-171x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"171\" height=\"240\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-88633\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-88633\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Greg Kleinheinz<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe automation engineering major was borne out of a request from several of the companies on our Advisory Board.
