Shop Talk

UW-Milwaukee's "Shop Talk" program brings breast cancer awareness information to minority women in their own neighborhoods. Begun five years ago by Annye Nichols, clinical assistant professor of nursing, the program now includes more than 100 African American beauty shops."Shop Talk" was recently expanded to grocery stores and other shops in Milwaukee's Hmong and Laotian communities. Shown here are stylist (and noted gospel singer) Phoebe Hines with customer Camille Hunt and "Shop Talk" team members (left to right) Vanessa Baldwin, Annye Nichols and Carla Harris.
