UW System on the Web

UW System's online presence is wide and varied. Here's a peek at interesting university websites and recent online news and happenings.

  • UW-Milwaukee was named one of the nation's Hot 100 Wired Colleges in the October issue of Yahoo Internet Life magazine. Ranked at No. 60, the university's "Web Portal," www.uwm.edu, is given an A grade. Information and Media Technologies' Student Technical Services earns special mention as a campuswide asset, and helps UWM's Tech Support grade hit A+. UWM was the only UW System school on the list.

  • Modern Maturity magazine, in its July-August 2001 issue, lists two UW Colleges distance education courses among its Top 10 online classes for the fall. Political Science 275: International Politics, is taught by UW-Marathon County's Angela Burger. Sociology 250: People, Organizations, and Society, is taught by UW-Richland's Wava Haney.

  • Learn more about Wisconsin's Great Lakes shipwrecks through the UW Sea Grant Institute at www.seagrant.wisc.edu/shipwrecks/. The website contains a link to a dive team's daily notes of its exploration of a shipwreck in Lake Michigan, conducted from Sept. 3 to Oct. 6.

  • The UW-Madison School of Education offers a list of Internet resources related to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks to assist educators and others in helping children cope with the events. From the school's Center for Instructional Materials and Computing site, web users can access resources ranging from background information to guides designed to help children deal with their feelings. Go to the "News and Events" page at www.education.wisc.edu, or visit the CIMC site directly at cimc.soemadison.wisc.edu/ref/resources/webliographies/sept_11_tragedy.html

  • A new UW-Extension website, www.govtraining.org, offers one-stop shopping for government managers and officials who want to expand or update their skills. UW-Extension's Governmental Affairs Consortium, consisting of Cooperative Extension's Local Government Center and the campus-based continuing education offices on the Green Bay, Madison, Milwaukee, Platteville and Superior campuses, is sponsoring the project.
