Wisconsin Ideas Summer 2004
More than 300,000 students have graduated from University of
Wisconsin System institutions during the 13-year tenure of UW System
President Katharine C. Lyall. With her final President's Convocation
on June 24 and her final days as president looming at August's
end, Lyall will soon join the ranks of those who move on with fond
Wisconsin memories in tow.

The University of Wisconsin System awarded more than 32,000 degrees during
commencement ceremonies this academic year. Per tradition, Wisconsin Ideas
offers a collection of the advice, wisdom and celebration offered by some
of those who delivered this spring's commencement addresses.

The state of Wisconsin must recommit to providing adequate, stable support
if the University of Wisconsin System is to continue to deliver quality
public higher education and ensure access for Wisconsin students, the UW
System Board of Regents concluded last month following a year-long study.
The University of Wisconsin System is already beginning to outline priorities
for the 2005-07 state budget, a biennium in which funding for the university
could establish the future direction of public higher education in Wisconsin.
