Questions and answers

Does the spring statewide Hazardous Material and Waste Generator Training cover the required training for Large Quantity Generator personnel?

The statewide Hazardous Material and Waste Generator Training is designed to specifically meet the training needs for the following:

  • Small Quantity Generators (SQGs) of hazardous waste
  • Very Small Quantity Generators (VSQGs)
  • Facilities that create Universal Wastes (both small and large quantity handlers)
  • Facilities that create other "special" wastes (used oil, medical waste, etc.)

It also could meet part of the training requirement for Large Quantity Generator personnel. In addition to the statewide session, personnel from an LQG facility would still need additional training specific to implementing the contingency plan for their facility.

Does the spring statewide Hazardous Material and Waste Generator Training cover the 8-hour Hazwoper refresher requirement for first responders operations level?

No, it is not designed meet any portion of the 8-hr Hazwoper refresher requirement.

The annual Hazardous Material and Waste Generator Training will generally cover:

  • Definitions, examples, and management requirements for Solid, Special, Universal and Hazardous Wastes
  • Chemical Compatibility and Storage
  • DOT Awareness – Transporting Hazardous Materials and Wastes
  • In-depth focus on a Special Waste or management practice, varying each year
