Dear Education Partner:
The University
of Wisconsin System is pleased to present "Posters in the Rotunda:
A Celebration of Undergraduate Research." Research is a major
focus of the academic experience throughout the UW System, and undergraduate
students at each of our 26 institutions contribute to the university's
mission by performing cutting-edge research in a variety of disciplines.
Undergraduate
research in the UW System benefits many members of the university
community. Outstanding students collaborate with faculty to conduct
recombinant DNA experiments, take measurements at the South Pole,
analyze political trends, create new chemical compounds, and collaborate
in every aspect of the scholarly work UW faculty perform. Students
often report that participating in undergraduate research results
in a stronger learning experience than can be acquired by taking
all regular courses available in their field.
UW System faculty
members also greatly benefit from these valuable collaborations.
By working with undergraduate researchers, faculty members offer
students a chance to gain an unparalleled education and, in return,
receive assistance toward their own research interests.
In addition,
undergraduate research brings benefits to the state of Wisconsin
as a whole. The undergraduate research process contributes to the
economic health, quality of life, and excellence of Wisconsin's
workforce.
The UW System
acknowledges the many partners that made this event possible, including
the talented student graphic design team at UW-Whitewater, the equipment
assistance provided by UW-Madison, and our elected officials at
the State Capitol.
Thank you to
each UW institution for contributing to this successful event, and
special congratulations to the student exhibitors. The "sifting
and winnowing" in which all UW System undergraduate researchers
participate is a true reflection of the Wisconsin Idea.
| Sincerely, |
