Prior to discarding a material, a waste determination process must be undertaken to decide how to appropriately and legally dispose of it.

The following flowcharts were prepared in the spring of 2005 by the training subcommittee of the multi-agency Hazardous Waste Standards Committee, with the participation of UW System. They assume some general knowledge of waste disposal terminology.
