Hazardous Waste Inspection Logs

Weekly inspections and inspection logs

Weekly inspections of containers of hazardous waste held in 90-day or 180-day storage areas is required for large and small quantity generators of hazardous waste. Prior to August 2006, the Wisconsin hazardous waste rules required that the results of these weekly inspections be entered in an inspection log, and that the log be kept for at least three years [reference at old NR 610.08(1)(o)2. and NR 615.05(4)(a)2.c.].

Following the adoption of the revised NR 600 hazardous waste rules in August 2006, the inspection log requirement was eliminated, though the performance of weekly inspections is still required. [See Summary of Major Differences between Old & New Wisconsin Hazardous Waste & Used Oil Rules provided by the WDNR]. Of course, you could continue to maintain a log if that practice benefits your operations.

Weekly inspections are not required for satellite accumulation areas.
