UW System Board of Regents to
Present Teaching Excellence Awards
MADISON -- The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents will present three Teaching Excellence Awards Friday, September 7 during its regular meeting in 1820 Van Hise Hall on the UW-Madison campus. Winners of the award for 2001 are:
- Gary Gilmore, Professor and Director of Community Health Programs, UW-La Crosse and UW-Extension;
- Cyrena Pondrom, Professor of English, UW-Madison; and
- Department of English, UW-Oshkosh.
Regent Patrick Boyle served as chair of the committee that selected the recipients from among nominees forwarded by each UW System institution. Each winner will receive $5,000 for professional development purposes.
"These awards reflect the UW System's vigorous commitment to teaching," said UW System President Katharine Lyall, "The caliber of teaching and the depth of dedication to undergraduate education demonstrated in the nomination materials are a tribute to the excellence to be found in college classrooms throughout the UW System."
