Roth 403(b) Option
Great news! A Roth 403(b) option is available for University of Wisconsin employees!!
TIAA-CREF, Fidelity, T. Rowe Price and Lincoln are the investment companies in the UW TSA 403(b) Program that offer the Roth option.
With a Roth 403(b) option, after-tax contributions can be contributed via payroll deduction to the same kinds of investments as the pre-tax deductions.
Before November 2011, University of Wisconsin System employees could only elect to participate in their UW TSA 403(b) Program by contributing pre-tax salary dollars. Contributions and earnings grow over their career and are taxed when withdrawn from the plan at a later date.
In a Roth 403(b) account contributions are included in taxable income in the year they are made, but the account balance and earnings are not taxed when distributed (subject to certain restrictions).
Information is in the fall 2011 issue of the TSA Inve$tor newsletter.
