Legislative Action

On July 27, the Assembly Ways and Means Committee passed AB 106 expanding the individual income tax deduction for college tuition expenses on a vote of 12-0. 

Legislation Introduced

Representative Colon has introduced AB 576, which would allow a student who is not a legal permanent resident of the United States to pay resident, tuition.  The bill has been referred to the Assembly Colleges and Universities Committee. Representative Schneider has introduced AB 578, an omnibus bill which creates a so-called UW Students "Bill of Rights."  The bill has also been referred to the Assembly Colleges and Universities Committee.  For more information, please see:  http://www.legis.state.wi.us/2005/data/AB-578.pdf

Legislative Hearing – Sept. 6

The day after Labor Day, Executive Senior Vice President Don Mash will provide the Colleges and Universities Committee an update on the APBS implementation.  Rep. Hundertmark’s bill (AB 387) to create a loan forgiveness program for nurse educators will also receive a public hearing at that time.
