2003-05 Biennial Budget

The budget bill is still on Gov. Jim Doyle's desk for veto consideration. The Governor has said publicly that he intends to veto approximately $100 million.

New Bills Introduced

SB-209. AGENTS (Kanavas) Regulates athlete agents who represent student athletes by enacting the Uniform Athlete Agents Act. To Higher Education and Tourism.

The Senate Committee on Higher Education and Tourism will meet on Wed., July 16, at 12:30 p.m. in 300 Southeast to take up:

Appointments to the Board of Regents

    • Mark Bradley, of Wausau, to serve for the term ending May 1, 2010.
    • Eileen Connolly-Keesler, of Neenah, to serve for the term ending May 1, 2010.
    • Chuck Pruitt, of Shorewood, to serve for the term ending May 1, 2009.
    • Beth Richlen, of Stevens Point, to serve for the term ending May 1, 2005.
    • Peggy Rosenzweig, of Wauwatosa, to serve for the term ending May 1, 2007.

Other Business

    • SB-85, Changes membership of the Board of Regents by substituting a resident from each of the 16 technical college districts for the Technical College System Board member and the 14 citizen members and by adding a student member who is at least 24 years old.
    • SB-172, which requires UW System institutions and private colleges to inform residence hall students about meningococcal disease (Meningitis) and to obtain confirmation of the student's vaccination or choice not to be vaccinated. The companion bill, AB 344, contains language proposed by Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Madison).
    • AB-344, The bill requires institutions to provide information to all residence hall students on meningococcal disease vaccinations.
