One local university is saving thousands of dollars with a new free e-mail system. The University of Wisconsin-Stout is only the second campus in the UW-system to start using Microsoft Live as it's email system. About 9,000 students are affected by the change. Students will now be able to keep the exact same email account after they graduate...

"On Campus: UW-Madison Athletic Department nets big chunk of Big Ten media money," Blog, Wisconsin State Journal, Sept. 30.
The UW-Madison Athletic Department got $12.7 million last year from contracts with Big Ten media, which include ABC, ESPN, CBS and the Big Ten Network, according to an athletics budget report. The rest of campus got about $2 million from the contract with the Big Ten Network, the result of an arrangement in which UW Athletics gets 70 percent of the revenue, while campus gets 30 percent...

The Student Labor Action Coalition marched on Chancellor Biddy Martin’s office Wednesday in protest of the University of Wisconsin’s agreement with multinational corporations that manufacture UW apparel...
"Professor gets grant for plant research," Leader-Telegram, Oct. 1.
An assistant biology professor at UW-Eau Claire has netted the school's first federal stimulus funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the National Science Foundation. Derek Gingerich received $150,000 to conduct research on plant-light reactions over the next three years...

"Davies brakes for Oak," The Spectator, Oct. 1.
The plans for the new Davies Center are officially on hold for the Council Oak, said UW-Eau Claire's Campus Facility planner Rick Gonzales, who spoke at a meeting with the University Steering Committee on Tuesday. Gonzales said he was optimistic the plan would not break the $48.8 million budget despite the delays, but at this point no one knows what the outcome will be...

UW-Green Bay may have the opportunity to incorporate an innovative product-from-waste technology center that would connect students and local businesses through research. The UW System created a Research to Jobs Task Force last February which produced several ideas regarding the creation of possible technology centers...

At UW-Oshkosh, almost 600 students have a documented disability of some kind, but two groups work to provide these students with accommodations and the help they need to be successful...
