"State closes gap on building funds," Superior Telegram, March 20.

The University of Wisconsin-Superior’s academic building is a go after the governor found $3.5 million — from savings on other UW System projects — to fill the gap on funding for Swenson Hall. The $32 million project has been on hold since December because fundraising efforts fell short with the downturn in the economy...

"Despite rejection of education building funding, UW-Eau Claire moving forward with plan," Leader-Telegram, March 19.

A state subcommittee recommended Thursday to not commit funding for a proposed $44.5 million education building for UW-Eau Claire two years from now, but Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich said the vote is not a huge setback because planning for the project is proceeding with the state's participation...

"UW-Stout student center renovation approved," Leader-Telegram, March 19.

A state subcommittee on Thursday recommended including a proposed $18 million renovation of UW-Stout's Memorial Student Center in the 2009-11 state budget. The positive recommendation came from the State of Wisconsin Building Commission's Higher Education Subcommittee...

"UW med school Match Day," WKOW-TV, March 19.

One hundred seventy University of Wisconsin medical students found out their futures Thursday, at the annual Match Day ceremony. UW officials say more students are choosing to stay in the state for their residency training and about 40 percent plan to pursue a residency in primary care -- where physicians nationwide are badly needed...

"Software allows Crime Stoppers to get tips via text message," WISC-TV, March 20.

Madison Area Crime Stoppers is using a new type of software that allows people to send tips from cell phones by text message.The Dane County Sheriff's Department, along with Madison and University of Wisconsin-Madison police, will utilize new TipSoft technology software from a Texas-based company, which gives people the ability to send leads on crimes to law enforcement with their cell phones via text messages...

"Gateway, Parkside strike deal," Kenosha News, March 20.

A new agreement will allow students to accrue prerequisite credits at Gateway Technical College, en route to a four-year degree at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The pact, inked Thursday, provides for the transfer of up to 30 general studies credits from Gateway to Parkside...

"UW-RF fills two top positions," River Falls Journal, March 19.

UW-River Falls released announcements Wednesday and Thursday that it hired people for two of its top jobs. Fernando Delgado accepted an offer to start July 1 as the institution’s provost and vice chancellor of academic affairs. He now serves as dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Hamline University in Minn...Glenn Potts, currently the director of the MBA program and an associate dean, will begin July 1 as the Dean of the College of Business and Economics..

"$1.4 million in federal money to boost UWSP sustainable technology center," Stevens Point Journal, March 20.

An injection of federal money will help focus a sustainable technology center at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. A little more than $1.4 million will go toward the Wisconsin Institute of Sustainable Technology, or WIST, to help make the state a leader in this area by using central Wisconsin's knowledge of forestry, paper science and energy independence...

"Marian University president resigns," Business Journal of Milwaukee, March 20.

Josefina Castillo Baltodano has announced her decision to resign as president of Marian University in Fond du Lac, the Catholic university said Thursday. No official reason for her resignation was disclosed in a press release...

"New approach to community college transfer," Inside Higher Ed, March 20.

With the Northeast projected to experience a decline in high school graduates, tuition-dependent liberal arts colleges in the region are looking for new ways to recruit students. Dickinson College, in Pennsylvania, is looking to community colleges to help fill its seats. On Thursday, it unveiled a new comprehensive transfer partnership with honors programs at four community colleges...
