Amidst a struggling economy with bank failures, plummeting stocks, and homes in foreclosure, the UW-L Foundation faces the task of raising money for campus projects including the new stadium and academic building additions. Despite the recent lack of any large gifts, Foundation officials stay optimistic...

"Student fees for new turf reallocated," Royal Purple, Nov. 5.

The proposed $750,000 in student fees to renovate the Perkins Stadium, including the installation of synthetic field turf, will now be used to install synthetic turf on the baseball field and renovate the Van Steenderen Softball Complex...The Segregated University Fee Allocations Committee and Whitewater Student Government agreed to shift the $750,000 in student fees from Perkins Stadium to Prucha Field and Van Steenderen Softball Complex after David and Lolita Kachel donated $1.5 million to cover the cost of turf and repair at Perkins stadium and other projects in the Kachel Family Sports Complex, including the outdoor track and soccer fields...

"Domestic partner benefits long overdue for UW-Madison faculty," Column, Daily Cardinal, Nov. 5.

UW-Madison has always claimed to be a forward-thinking, progressive school often responsible for shaping new beliefs on the national level. However, within the dialogue of same-sex marriage, UW-Madison has looked almost unrecognizable in its inaction regarding domestic partner benefits...

"HEC and Wisconsin join hands over property," Financial Times, Nov. 4.

HEC in Paris is increasing its links with US business schools through a partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Madison to develop and teach a real estate programme at HEC. Wisconsin School of Business is one of the leaders in the US in teaching real estate programmes...

Barack Obama, who won the overwhelming support of college students, faculty members, and higher-education officials during his campaign, will be the next president of the United States...Mr. Obama, who taught constitutional law as a senior lecturer at the University of Chicago and was the first black president of the Harvard Law Review, campaigned on a platform that called for increased aid to students, a doubling of federal funds for basic research, and government grants to “successful community colleges” that train unemployed workers in emerging industries...
