The UW Board of Regents is expected to approve a two-year budget today for the University of Wisconsin System that includes a request for $37.5 million in tax money and $13.4 million in student fees to support an agenda to recruit and retain more students...

"I've started the process of unpacking and moving in," said Martin. "It's a lot of work but I've cleared a path from my bedroom to the coffee maker, and I thought maybe that would do for now."...

The WiCell Research Institute in Madison is starting its own stem cell bank to distribute cell lines beyond the 21 eligible by law for federal funding....

Madison is now home to two stem cell banks. The WiCell Research Institute, affiliated with UW-Madison, announced Thursday that it has created the WiCell Bank to distribute stem cells such as those created from skin cells last year by campus researcher James Thomson...

Even though many colleges will boast today about their placement in the annual rankings by U.S. News & World Report, more colleges than ever are declining to participate in the survey that makes up the single largest part of the magazine's formula...

Colleges are experimenting with Facebook and other social networks to notify students about emergencies like crimes and floods - and get vital information in return. Most emergency-alert systems send out warnings. But social networks give students a chance to add on-the-scene reports or trade information if trouble hits...
