Column by Sen. Russ Decker stating that the state legislature did not approve UW-La Crosse's proposal to use revenue generated from a tuition increase for financial aid because when the students originally voted on the proposal, they were told the money would be used for another purpose -- hiring faculty and staff members.
The full legislature will likely approve proposed changes to the pay plan for state employees, which stipulates that UW faculty and academic staff and nonunion state workers will receive a 1 percent raise on July 6 and a 2 percent increase June 2009; the pay plan approved last year would have given a 2 percent increase this July and a 1 percent increase next April.
