The UW Hospital medical helicopter that recently crashed lacked two safety items recommended by the National Transportation Safety Board.

"Fire destroys UW fraternity house," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, May 13.

The fraternity house used by the UW-Madison chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon was destroyed by fire; the house was occupied by the same fraternity that is suspected of a recent hazing incident.

State

Carroll College trustees have approved changing the school's name to Carroll University; the name change becomes effective July1.

"Push continues for Wisconsin Covenant," Wisconsin Radio Network, May 13.

Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton met students in Rhinelander yesterday to talk about the Wisconsin Covenant.

National

"Congress eyes dramatic expansion of GI bill," USA Today, May 12.

Congressional Democrats have proposed a plan that would expand college aid for military veterans; the plan would essentially ensure a full ride to any in-state public university and a monthly stipend for those who serve at least three years.
