"Top UW-System officials earn more than Doyle," Daily Cardinal, April 22.

Although some UW System officials make more than Gov. Jim Doyle, some of those officials are earning less than their counterparts at peer institutions.

"Wisconsin universities working to close graduation gap," Wisconsin Public Radio, April 22.

Graduation rates for all UW System students is higher than national average, but rates for non-white students still lag; the gap for non-white students in Wisconsin is generally not as large as those in other states.

"UW-Whitewater trims field," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, April 21.

Five finalists have been announced for the UW-Whitewater chancellor position.

"MPTC, UW-O articulation agreement means instructional assistant credits will transfer," Fond Du Lac Reporter, April 22.

Instructional Assistant students at Moraine Park Technical College can now transfer their associates degrees to UW-Oshkosh's special education bachelor degree program; the move comes because of a shortage of special education teachers in the Fox River Valley.

"UHS announces 4 finalists for director position," Badger Herald, April 22.

Four finalists were announced for the UW-Madison executive director of University Health Services position.

"Whitewater campus still without heat, hot water," Associated Press, April 22.

Six days after a boiler exploded at UW-Whitewater, students still are without heat and hot water; a temporary bypass pipe will be installed by Thursday to get the services back.

UW-River Falls segregated fees will top $1,000 in the 2008-09 school year; during the 2007-08 school year, student paid $993.96 in segregated fees.

"MATC expects to cut expenses," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, April 21.

Milwaukee Area Technical College needs to cut expenses for the next fiscal year to ensure there will not be a property tax levy increase of more than 5.5 percent.

National

Many elite colleges and universities are eliminating tuition for low-income students.

"Universities' intellectual property stance criticized," Inside Higher Ed, April 22.

The World Health Organization announced a number of proposals, including seeking to loosen patent protection on drugs that treat particular diseases and international contests in place of international intellectual property rights.
