UW-La Crosse students voted to proceed with creating a Green Fund for energy-efficient projects; before becoming policy, Chancellor Gow and the Board of Regents must approve the measure.

On Campus

"Competition lets students compete worldwide," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, April 14.

UW-Whitewater looks forward to the annual Purple Comet Math Meet, a free online math competition for middle and high schoolers; this year, the campus is hoping to attract more national and international teams to compete.

"United Council membership under scrutiny," UW-La Crosse Racquet, April 16.

The campus Senate and Residence Hall Association Council both voted against UW-La Crosse's continued membership in United Council, but the decision will ultimately be made by the students.

One year after the Virginia Tech tragedy, UW-Madison officials continue to focus on prevention while updating the campus crisis communication plan.

"Dean at Marquette to become provost," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, April 15.

Marquette University announced that John Pauly, current Dean of the College of Communication, will take over as provost in July.

"Wis. governor calls for greater protection of private information," Associated Press, April 15.

Gov. Doyle called on all state agencies to stop using social security numbers; additionally, to improve the protection of private information, the Governor also called for a new training program for state workers and the appointment of privacy officers in every agency.

"Doyle urges budget fix," Wisconsin Public Radio, April 15.

Gov. Doyle calls on the state legislature to finish a budget repair bill in the next six to ten days.

National

"Kind, others in Congress call for earmark reform," La Crosse Tribune, April 16.

Wisconsin Representative Ron Kind, along with several other members of the U.S. House, introduced legislation that would create a commission to reform the earmark process.

"Boston-Area seniors share college rejection letters," National Public Radio, April 16.

As schools note a record-breaking number of rejection letters this year, students come together to share their disappointment at not being accepted into top-tier universities.
