Eight designs were unveiled Monday for UW-Madison's new Union South project.

"UW mandates socialization courses for new athletes," Wisconsin Public Radio, April 14.

UW-Madison will implement a six-session program for student athletes aimed at giving athletes "life-skills" training which includes how to achieve academic success.

"Doyle: Fix budget or face consequences," Capital Times, April 15.

Gov. Doyle has given lawmakers approximately two weeks to iron out a plan for the budget deficit.

"Doyle kicks off Covenant Day," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, April 14.

Monday was the kick-off day for Wisconsin eighth graders to sign up for the Wisconsin Covenant program, a program intended to guarantee a spot in college for students who sign a pledge and meet certain academic and nonacademic criteria.

"S&S chairman donates $100,000 for Western scholarships," La Crosse Tribune, April 15.

George B. Smith, chairman of S&S Cycle, donated $100,000 to the Western Technical College Foundation; the donation will fund scholarships for students in machine tool and mechanical design programs.

"College rejections increasing," Wisconsin Public Radio, April 14.

Many Wisconsin colleges and universities are part of a nationwide trend that is observing increased admission rejections in the face of growing applicant numbers.

"Gap persists between faculty salaries at public and private institutions," Chronicle of Higher Education, April 15.

The American Association of University Professors announced in their annual report that the the gap in faculty pay is hurting the ability of public institutions to recruit and retain faculty. (paid subscription only)
