"Audit: UW campuses should do more to protect private data," Associated Press, April 4.

A report by UW System auditors reveals that UW institutions should do more to protect personal data; the report also suggests campuses should hire computer security officers if they have not already done so.

"UW progressing on system goals," Badger Herald, April 7.

The UW System Accountability Report reveals that the System has met or partially met 19 of 20 goals.

"UWO continues fight against illegal downloads," Oshkosh Northwestern, April 7.

Since 2006, UW-Oshkosh has developed a major campaign to reduce illegal file-sharing over the campus server.

The college classroom benefits from a mix of traditional and nontraditional students, and at UW-Superior, a growing number of nontraditional students are enrolling in classes.

UW-Madison, like many large higher education institutions, is increasingly relying on instructional staff to fill teaching positions.

"UW-Platteville seeks extra $100 annual tuition charge," Associated Press, April 4.

The Board of Regents will vote this week on UW-Platteville's proposal to raise students' tuition by $100 annually through differential tuition to help provide academic and student support services.

Adidas representatives met with the UW-Madison Labor Licensing Policy Committee to discuss issues related to the laying off and alleged blacklisting of Hermosa Manufacturing workers.

"Benefits of undergraduate research reach far beyond lab," Column, Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter, April 7.

UW-Manitowoc offers undergraduate research and mentorship programs beginning freshman year.

"Universities find ways to work with parents who want active roles in kids' lives," La Cross Tribune, April 6.

UW-La Crosse and Viterbo are a part of the growing number of colleges that are looking at ways to work with highly-involved parents.

"Over 50 apply to be chancellor," Badger Herald, April 7.

Fifty-five applicants have declared their candidacy for the position of UW-Madison chancellor.

"Voters authorize adding $1 to tuition for Iraqi students," Badger Herald, April 7.

UW-Madison students voted in favor of a referendum that would raise tuition $1 to offset the cost of tuition of five Iraqi students; the referendum will eventually go to the Board of Regents for a vote.

National

"Reaching out to students in foster care," Inside Higher Ed, April 7.

A recent study presented at the American Association of Community Colleges convention outlined ways community colleges are reaching this particularly vulnerable segment of the population.

"Bills aim to help students," Chicago Tribune, April 7.

The House has passed a bill that would allow students to receive Pell Grants during the summer session; the Senate passed a similar bill.
