A UW-Oshkosh student wrote a column revealing the challenges of growing up as an exceptionally tall woman; now, her column is one of the most-read entries on the NYT blog, and the Today Show is planning a feature story on her.

"Enz Finken named next provost," La Crosse Racquet, April 2.

UW-La Crosse named Dr. Kathleen Enz Finken as the next Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs; she worked previously as Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities at Minnesota State University Moorhead for 15 years.

"Business booms at Rec Center," UW-Whitewater Royal Purple, April 2.

Students and community members alike have flocked to UW-Whitewater's University Center; the brand-new building is quickly becoming a hot-spot for pizza, bowling, and just hanging out.

State

"Nation closing in on state in education funding," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, April 2.

While receiving almost the lowest amount of federal funding for grade school and high school education, Wisconsin has consistently ranked among the top half of states in the amount of state government money spent per student in K-12.

"Good riddance to monster veto," Editorial, Wisconsin State Journal, April 2.

Editorial commending Wisconsin voters for defeating the "Frankenstein" veto by a margin of 2-1.

National

"City students less likely to graduate than suburban kids," LA Times, April 2.

Continued coverage of national study that found a gap between suburban and urban high school graduation rates; the study has sparked the U.S. Department of Education to call for high schools to standardize their formula for dropout and graduation rates.
