"UW researcher: Statin drug may slow onset of Alzheimer's," Capital Times, March 27.

UW-Madison researcher Dr. Cynthia Carlsson has found that a cholesterol-lowering drug could slow the onset of Alzheimer's disease.

"UW upgrades vice provost job," Capital Times, March 26.

UW-Madison has offered its new vice provost for diversity and climate a full-time position; Damon Williams from the University of Connecticut-Storrs has been appointed to the position.

State

Wisconsin residents' personal income grew 5.3 percent in 2007, placing the state among those with the slowest growth; the national average was 6.2 percent.

National

"Tuition hike will push cost of attending U. of I. past $20,000 for new undergrads this fall," Chicago Tribune, March 27.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will raise tuition for typical new freshmen by 9.5 percent in the wake of dwindling state funding and increased health-care and energy costs.
