UW-Stout will participate in a study by the U.S. Education Department's Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education; the study will assist in determining which of three tests universities nationwide should utilize to measure student performance.

"UW-L seeks another $4.8M for new academic building," La Crosse Tribune, March 25.

After raising $1.2 million for a new academic building, UW-La Crosse must still raise $4.8 million to receive an additional $38 million in funding from the state to complete the project.

"Education program gives students leg up," Wausau Daily Herald, March 25.

The TRIO program at Northcentral Technical College assists college students who are first-generation, low-income, or disabled in identifying ways to overcome obstacles they may encounter on their way to achieving their goals.

National

"Less students, more minorities to earn diplomas," Badger Herald, March 25.

A study by the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education reveals that as the number of high school graduates decreases through 2015, the number of minority graduates will increase.

"Economy's troubles could hit colleges unusually hard," Chronicle of Higher Education, March 25.

Traditionally, as economies endure recessions, colleges see increased enrollment; however, economists believe the recent downturn in the economy has college officials worried that they will not have the state and federal funding necessary to support greater access for higher numbers of applicants.
