"UW System to look at tuition restructuring," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, March 7.

The Board of Regents considered various ways to adjust future tuition and financial aid levels, in ways that would compensate for reduced state funding, preserve academic quality and ensure affordable access; one approach would allow for greater variability in tuition levels across the UW System's 26 campuses.

Milton McPike, a lifelong advocate for education, resigned from the Board of Regents due to declining health; the Board took time to convey its appreciation for his commitment and legacy.

Researchers at UW-Madison are investigating utilizing parasites to help the immune systems of those who have multiple sclerosis.

The UW-Madison faculty senate voted to approve a a resolution committing faculty to fundraising for need-based scholarships.

"New UW-L transcript to highlight involvement," La Crosse Tribune, March 7.

UW-La Crosse plans to issue two transcripts to students, one including student involvement, service, and leadership.

"New text-alert system has glitches, workarounds," Wisconsin Public Radio, March 6.

UW-Madison will soon have multiple ways to send out alerts to students, staff, and faculty in the event of an emergency.

State

"State needs long-term view," Stevens Point Journal, March 7.

Competitive Wisconsin includes in its economic initiative the Competitive Mandate, a plan to support higher education and convince UW System graduates to find jobs in the state.

"Governor writing budget repair bill," Wisconsin State Journal, March 7.

The state legislature and Gov. Doyle will need to find a solution to filling the state's $416 million budget deficit; currently, several options are on the table.
