On Campus

"UW group's stem cell patent upheld," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Feb. 29.

The U.S. patent office threw out a challenge to a key patent held by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation regarding stem cell research.

UW-Madison students will be able to submit their cell phone numbers to receive texts in emergency situation; this is part of the new program called WiscAlerts which includes several notification strategies.

UW-Madison students learn about each step of meat processing and safety standards in Bucky's Bargain Butchery, which also sells quality bargain beef.

"UWRF Chartwells dining contract up for review," River Falls Student Voice, Feb. 28.

UW-River Falls will take bids and proposals from food service providers when their current contact with Chartwells ends in May.

"Band of others: At UW, one need not be a music major to be instrumental to the program," Wisconsin State Journal, Feb. 28.

UW-Madison's School of Music awards four credits to non-majors for every credit to majors; the program believes in sharing their resources and love for music with campus and community.

At the top of the Big Ten, and 13th in the nation, UW-Madison raised $325.3 million in funds in 2007.

"Appeals court dismisses UW-L stadium naming lawsuit," La Crosse Tribune, Feb. 29.

The District 4 Appeals Court held that leaders of two local veterans groups did not have standing to sue the university regarding the UW-La Crosse stadium name.

"La Crosse hopes for aide legislation," Badger Herald, Feb. 29.

A proposed Senate bill would allow UW-La Crosse to reallocate $664,000 for financial aid.

State

"Time to value well-rounded universities," Column, Wisconsin State Journal, Feb. 29.

A liberal education provides students with a broad and integrated set of skills and knowledge, and state commitment to the university system should reflect these values.
