"Rules would give UW discipline authority for off-campus conduct," Associated Press, Feb. 25.

In April, the Board of Regents may approve recommended changes to the UW System's conduct code; once the initial recommendations are approved by the Regents, state rules call for them to be sent to the state Legislative Council for further review, followed by a university-sponsored public hearing.

University of Colorado recently hired a business leader with no academic credentials as president of its university system.

"New learning lab study is child's play," Green Bay Press-Gazette, Feb. 26.

Researchers at UW-Green Bay's new Language Learning Lab are studying the development of toddlers' grammatical growth.

"Student fees will go up to pay for complex," Oshkosh Northwestern, Feb. 26.

UW-Oshkosh's segregated fees committee passed an increase in student fees that will begin next fall; the increase raises the segregated fees by $48 to help pay for the completion of the Oshkosh Sports Complex.

In the wake of the Northern Illinois University tragedy, the UW-Madison Threat Assessment Response Team announced that it has stopped potential threats on campus.

"UW-Stout discovers its ZENN fits sustainability philosophy," Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, Feb. 26.

UW-Stout recently purchased a Zero-Emission, No Noise electric vehicle for the school's security and police services.

On Monday, a Senate committee approved the reallocation of $664,800 in state funds for UW-La Crosse's Growth, Quality, and Access Initiative.

State

"Doyle plans to boost economy with Grow Wisconsin," Green Bay Press-Gazette, Feb. 26.

Today, Gov. Doyle will reveal a series of proposals aimed at boosting the state's economy; Doyle also said that a budget repair bill will be introduced soon.

"For-profit college bill on fast track," Capital Times, Feb. 26.

A proposed bill would allow the state's Educational Approval Board the formal authority to hold for-profit colleges accountable for items such as job placement rates.

National
