"$175 million for scholarships," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Dec. 17.

John and Tashia Morgridge, UW-Madison alumni, donated $175 million to fund a permanent endowment that provides scholarships for Wisconsin high school students to attend universities in the state; the couple, in total, has donated $250 million to UW-Madison.

Board of Regents member and President and CEO of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, Eileen Connolly-Keesler, urges donors in the community to continue endowments to the Foundation, which funds organizations like the American Red Cross.

On Campus

"Oshkosh mom's family bestows major scholarship program to UWO students," Oshkosh Northwestern, Dec. 17.

Family created a $600,000 scholarship endowment for students at UW-Oshkosh; it is one of the largest endowed scholarships in the school's history.

"UW-Stout experiment eases transition to adult world," Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, Dec. 16.

The Transitional Partnership School at UW-Stout provides instruction for students with disabilities to learn to live independently.

"Fish eat eggs likely fertilized by rivals," Wisconsin State Journal, Dec. 16.

Jeff McKinnon, a professor of biology at UW-Whitewater, found that if male fish are uncertain about the paternity of spawn, they will turn to cannibalism.

"Board will review UW-Extension staffing," Manitowoc Herald Times, Dec. 18.

A county board committee will review the 2008 budget adjustments of County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer; the adjustments cut a position at UW-Extension to fund the Economic Development Corporation of Manitowoc County.

"Campus to get 4 new professors," Baraboo News Republic, Dec. 18.

UW-Baraboo/Sauk County will hire four tenured professors for next fall.

"Study to determine efficiency, duration of rabies shot," Wisconsin Public Radio, Dec. 17.

A study at UW-Madison seeks to discover whether dogs become immune to rabies for up to seven years with just one shot.
