"UW names interim dean of continuing education," Badger Herald, Nov. 27.

UW-Extension Provost and Vice Chancellor Marv Van Kekerix was announced as the interim vice provost for lifelong learning and dean of the Division of Continuing Studies, a position that will continue to promote learning opportunities for nontraditional students and work to develop closer ties between UW-Extension and UW campuses.

UW students expressed concerns about proposed changes to segregated fee policies at a listening session held on the UW-Madison campus.

A UW-Madison committee heard plans for a new campus research building for biomedical studies that will foster collaborative work and community outreach.

State

"Guest view: We must keep our promises to veterans," Column, La Crosse Tribune, Nov. 22.

A state senator supports fully funding the Wisconsin GI Bill, which pays state veterans 100 percent tuition for up to eight credits at a UW or technical college campus.

"Middle-skill jobs," Editorial, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Nov. 27.

An editorial encouraging greater investment in the state's educational system to better educate students at all levels to prepare for "middle-skill jobs," which are those that require at least some post-secondary education.

"State will clean up UW coal plant," Wisconsin State Journal, Nov. 27.

The state of Wisconsin will make improvements to the UW-Madison coal plant, as well as review 13 other coal plants throughout the state, as the result of a settlement following a lawsuit brought by the Sierra Club; UW-Madison officials hope the plant will be able to make use of campus research on biofuels in a commercial market.
