State Budget

"UW System leaders react to compromise budget," Column, Dunn County News, Oct. 25.

UW System President Kevin Reilly and Board of Regents President Mark Bradley express appreciation to the Legislature for making higher education a top priority in Wisconsin during budget negotiations.

This editorial thanks the Legislature for finally passing a state budget, but suggests several alterations to the existing draft.

UW System

"Wait-listed students finally receive financial aid," Badger Herald, Oct. 25.

UW System officials said the university is glad its students waiting to receive vital financial aid are now able to continue their education thanks to the funding of the Wisconsin Higher Education Grant.

"Employee policies in need of upgrade," Column, Badger Herald, Oct. 25.

This column supports allowing UW faculty and academic staff to collectively bargain; a provision to allow such bargaining was cut from the most recent state budget.

On Campus

"UW-La Crosse unsatisfied with new state budget," Badger Hearld, Oct. 25.

The state budget leaves UW-La Crosse without some of the needed funding for its Growth and Access Agenda, which disappointed Chancellor Joe Gow and other campus officials.

"UWO wins big in budget battle with new facilities, more faculty and financial aid," Oshkosh Northwestern, Oct. 25.

UW-Oshkosh Chancellor Richard Wells commended state leaders for passing a state budget that is favorable to the campus, and to the UW System as a whole.

"UWSP students see green," Stevens Point Journal, Oct. 25.

Student leaders at UW-Stevens Point passed a resolution requesting that all campus buildings meet certain rigorous energy efficiency standards.

State

"State Democrats oust Robson, pick Decker as Senate majority leader," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Oct. 25.

Democrats in the state Senate elected Sen. Russ Decker to replace Sen. Judy Robson as Senate Majority Leader, saying Decker would provide the party with a "stronger advocate."
