State Budget

"New budget OK with university," Badger Herald, Oct. 23.

UW System officials said the adoption of a state budget would mean the university could do away with some rather disagreeable contingency plans that were options to reduce spending and increase revenue.

UW System

"Students face unfair possibility of double jeopardy," Column, Badger Herald, Oct. 23.

This column opposes changes to UW System's student discipline policies on the grounds that students could be punished twice for the same infraction.

On Campus

"UWGB takes action on increased crime, arrests," Green Bay Press-Gazette, Oct. 23.

UW-Green Bay officials said despite a slight increase in some crime categories, the campus is still very safe and its leaders are working diligently to maintain that safety.

"UW-River Falls profs land $450K grant for education software," Wisconsin Technology Network, Oct. 23.

Two UW-River Falls professors have received a fourth grant from the National Science Foundation to continue to develop their case-based learning biology software for the 19th consecutive year.

State

"Students gave $100,000 to state campaigns," Daily Cardinal, Oct. 23.

The multi-thousand-dollar state campaign contributions by some Wisconsin students have raised suspicion among members of a watchdog group.

"Reboot panel to oversee IT," Editorial, Wisconsin State Journal, Oct. 23.

This editorial urges elected officials to revive a legislative panel that provides oversight for state computer projects, as recommended by the Legislative Audit Bureau.

National

"Tuition outpaces inflation," Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, Oct. 23.

According to figures released by the College Board, college tuition rose an average of 6.6 percent nationally at public four-year campuses, outstripping both inflation rates and financial aid increases.
