State Budget

State Legislators continue to receive their salaries and stipends despite not passing a budget that was due on July 1; one legislator has introduced a measure that would cut legislative pay during future budget impasses.

UW System campuses should work even harder to attract students of color to the university in an effort to increase campus diversity; while applications and admissions for students of color were up, many chose to attend campuses outside the UW System to pursue their higher education.

On Campus

"Gow shows class with donation for his own inauguration event," Editorial, La Crosse Tribune, Oct. 18.

This editorial applauds UW-La Crosse Chancellor Joe Gow for personally donating nearly $8,000 toward the cost of his inauguration ceremony, an amount that covers the entire cost of the ceremony that has not already been covered by other donations.

In an era of rising academic costs, some UW-Madison students must make several sacrifices, financial and otherwise, to continue their higher education.
