State Budget

"Doyle calls his budget plan less harsh for UW," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Oct. 11.

"UW should not pay for low budget," Editorial, Daily Cardinal, Oct. 11.

The state's potential underfunding of the UW System would hurt students by forcing the university to make cuts to its academic offerings.

"A really special session," Editorial, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Oct. 11.

When meeting in a special budget session, Wisconsin's legislators should be more flexible in their voting than their party leaders have been; the state budget is now more than 100 days late, and Wisconsin is the only state without a budget.

"Republicans overreact to UW e-mail," Column, Badger Herald, Oct. 11.

This column, and the related, express two different viewpoints of a recent e-mail to students awaiting the state-financed Wisconsin Higher Education Grant, the funding for which has been held up due to the ongoing budget impasse; UW System officials maintain the e-mails broke no laws, as student information was neither included in the e-mail nor released to any other agency.

On Campus

"Stout library renamed for former chancellor," Dunn County News, Oct. 11.

The UW System Board of Regents recently approved a request by UW-Stout Chancellor Charles Sorensen to have the campus's library renamed after former Chancellor Robert Swanson, who led the campus from 1972 until 1988.
