Gov. Doyle has revised his budget to where it would provide the UW System with $25 million less than his original proposal; Doyle compared this reduction to the nearly $60 million shortfall offered by members of the state Assembly.
The state's potential underfunding of the UW System would hurt students by forcing the university to make cuts to its academic offerings.

When meeting in a special budget session, Wisconsin's legislators should be more flexible in their voting than their party leaders have been; the state budget is now more than 100 days late, and Wisconsin is the only state without a budget.
