Thousands of visually impaired students cannot complete college coursework because the textbooks they need are not available in an accessible format; Wisconsin legislation is being considered to create a statewide repository of books in alternate formats.

"Professors need bargaining rights," Column, Green Bay Press-Gazette, Sept. 14.

This columnist argues that granting professors and academic staff collective bargaining rights will result in less expensive conflict resolution over salary disputes.

"Students at UW-S raise questions for chancellor," Sheboygan Press, Sept. 14.

Responding to students' concerns and questions during a listening session at UW-Sheboygan, UW Colleges and UW-Extension Chancellor David Wilson said the tuition freeze at the two-year campuses for the 2007-08 academic year is helping the UW Colleges remain an affordable higher education choice for students.

National

"Education reform bill drops interest rates, increases grants," Wisconsin Public Radio, Sept. 13.

Congress has passed legislation, called the College Cost Reduction Act, that will lower interest rates on student loans and also provide students more grants for higher education.
