State Budget

"UW should not be partisan issue," Editorial, Wisconsin State Journal, Aug. 22.

State lawmakers from both parties rightly recognize that the UW System needs adequate funding in Wisconsin's biennial budget in order for the state to become a global economic force.

"Cuts to hurt education," Letter to the Editor, Hudson Star-Observer, Aug. 17.

The president and executive director of the St. Croix Economic Development Corporation urge the Legislature to fully fund UW-River Falls and other higher education institutions.

UW System

"Tuition freeze eases college costs," Appleton Post-Crescent, Aug. 22.

A tuition freeze for the coming academic year for all UW Colleges was meant to preserve access to the institutions while continuing to offer the high educational quality the for which the UW System is known, according to Regent President Mark Bradley.

On Campus

"UW-EC chancellor thinking about future," Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, Aug. 22.

UW-Eau Claire Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich said the campus must always be looking for ways to better serve its students and staff members and continually improve its offerings.

Officials from UW-River Falls discuss the campus's efforts to update its security procedures in the wake of the shooting at Virginia Tech.

"Staffing shortage nixes student payment system," Superior Daily Telegram, Aug. 21.

A lack of support staff has forced UW-Superior to cease accepting credit cards or any form of electronic payment for tuition and fees.

State

"Counties building economic clout," St. Paul Pioneer Press, Aug. 19.

At the urging of the chancellors at UW-River Falls, UW-Stout and UW-Eau Claire, a new nine-county economic development organization is under consideration.

National

"More information for the families," Editorial, Beloit Daily News, Aug. 22.

This editorial says that despite some objections from university officials from institutions around the country, U.S. News and World Report's annual college rankings are useful because they help families make better-informed higher education decisions.
