"Budget implications dire, educators say," Green Bay Press-Gazette, Aug. 19.

UW-Green Bay Chancellor Bruce Shepard joins other Green Bay-area education leaders in expressing concern over a trend of underfunding education in Wisconsin's budgets that has developed in recent years.

"Ellis can take lead on tuition," Editorial, Capital Times, Aug. 17.

Senior members of the state Legislature should work with members of the UW System Board of Regents to formulate plans that would provide the university with adequate funding not only to maintain its high educational quality, but to grow -- a move that would keep future tuition increases minimal.

On Campus

"Details of planned UWM campus still hazy," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Aug. 21.

A committee of faculty, staff and students will begin meeting this week to craft more detailed plans for UW-Milwaukee's proposed engineering campus, which would be located about 12 miles away from the main campus.

"Hunting for a shooter: Law enforcement agencies participate in training exercise at UWO," Oshkosh Northwestern, Aug. 21.

Law enforcement officers from around the Oshkosh area took part in an "active shooter" simulation at UW-Oshkosh, meant to keep officers prepared in the event of a shooting on the campus; since the Virginia Tech shooting in April, UW System officials have worked to update the university's security policies.
