If the Assembly's version of the UW System's budget -- which includes a $120 million cut to university operations -- is approved, UW-Marathon County would be forced to reduce its faculty by up to 27 part-time or adjunct professors, cut class offerings by as much as 30 percent and trim enrollment by some 500 students, according to campus officials.

After Wisconsin's Attorney General said updates to the UW System's admissions policies were legal, a Wisconsin legislator is seeking to change the state law.

"Inventors at small UW schools to get more focus," Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, July 30.

Leaders at the WiSys Technology Foundation said UW-Milwaukee's secession from the organization will certainly not hinder its ability to serve its remaining member campuses, and may, in fact, enhance the organization's service.

Regent Vice President Charles Pruitt said he hopes UW System campuses will efficiently formulate and implement plans to control how much money students spend on textbooks; UW campuses are expected to have plans created by December, according to an edict by the Board of Regents.

UW-Green Bay's Grandparents' University offers grandparents and their grandchildren the opportunity to bond while taking college courses and staying in a residence hall; in its second year, the program saw a total of 90 participants in 2007.

"American Family backing for new children's hospital now at $15 million," WisBusiness.com, July 27.

A Madison-area company's generous contribution to a children's hospital on the UW-Madison campus will give the company naming rights to the building.
