"Partner benefits have legs: Proposal in state budget goes further than ever," Capital Times, July 2.

UW System Regent Vice President Charles Pruitt said there is growing momentum around the issue of providing health benefits to the domestic partners of state employees, particularly for employees at UW-Madison, which is the only Big Ten campus not to offer such benefits.

UW-Madison's first-year student orientation program focus a lot of attention on students' parents, many of whom have more questions about the college experience than their children.

Officials from the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation remain confident that the foundation's stem-cell patents will ultimately be upheld; the patents had been preliminarily rejected earlier this year by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and are currently under appeal.

"Johnson named UW-Manitowoc representative," Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter, July 3.

UW-Manitowoc has named Brian Johnson as its representative on the UW Colleges Board of Visitors; Johnson is an alumnus of UW-Manitowoc and of UW-Madison.

State

"Thumbs up/down," Editorial, Janesville Gazette, July 2.

Officials from Wisconsin and Minnesota receive a "thumbs up" for their efforts to preserve the states' tuition reciprocity agreement without charging more to students or taxpayers.

National

"Holding on to graduates," Inside Higher Ed, July 3.

Beginning next year, Maine will offer state residents who graduate from one of the state's higher education institutions tax credits as an incentive to remain in the state to begin and cultivate their careers.
