Gov. Jim Doyle said he would work to keep UW-La Crosse's Growth and Access plan -- which will increase enrollment, faculty hiring and financial aid for students from lower-income families -- in the state's biennial budget; the state Senate cut the plan's proposed funding earlier this week in its budget discussions.

UW-Stout officials said immense interest in the its golf enterprise management program has prompted the campus to offer the four-year degree program online beginning this fall.

The University of Minnesota Board of Regents voted for differential tuition increases for students on two campuses, depending on the income of each student's family; in September, the Regents will consider recently crafted modifications to Wisconsin and Minnesota's tuition reciprocity agreement.

A recent U.S. Department of Education Report shows that while most part-time college students are older and financially independent, there is a growing contingent of young, financially dependent students who only attend college part-time.
