"UW tuition likely to increase by this fall," Green Bay Press-Gazette, June 25.

At its July meeting, the UW System Board of Regents will try to find the most agreeable compromise between affordable tuition increases and competitive salaries for employees; UW System tuition rates still remain below those of peer institutions, as do the university's salaries.

"Campus bank card deals need Regent oversight," Editorial, Racine Journal Times, June 25.

This editorial suggests the Board of Regents should examine UW System campuses' ID/Debit card agreements with private banks.

On Campus

"UW-Milwaukee is proud of its diversity, but more must be done on all campuses," Column, Capital Times, June 22.

UW-Milwaukee Chancellor Carlos Santiago says broadening campus diversity throughout the UW System will make for greater student success overall.

UW-River Falls mapped out steps to cut emissions and reverse global warming, signing a charter "climate-neutral" pledge with 300 other higher education institutions last week.

"UW considering Hmong Studies program," Capital Times, June 23.

UW-Madison officials are examining ways to integrate education about the Hmong culture into the campus's course options.

State

"Senate Dems vow to tweak state budget," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, June 23.

Members of the state Senate will work to include a tuition waiver for military veterans admitted to graduate school and health insurance for domestic partners of state workers in their version of the biennial budget.

Editorial: "Good-faith legislating," Editorial, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, June 25.

"2 states in harmony on tuition," Associated Press, June 23.

Officials from Wisconsin and Minnesota expressed satisfaction that the two states were able to reach a tentative agreement that would maintain their current tuition reciprocity agreement without charging more to students or taxpayers.

National

"Universities seek changes in legislation to reshape the patent system," Chronicle of Higher Education, June 25.

UW-Madison was among the colleges and universities to sign a letter seeking adjustments to a proposed overhaul of federal patent laws.
