The UW System Board of Regents unanimously adopted an updated policy which places stringent restrictions on the relationships between its campus' financial aid workers and private educational lending firms.

UW-Stevens Point is seeking to expand its accessibility for teachers seeking master's degrees in education, as many area educators choose private institutions, which often cost less than UW-Stevens Point, for such accreditation.

Fay Yokomizo Akindes, associate professor of communication and acting director of the Center for Ethnic Studies at UW-Parkside, explains the benefits of the campus's annual Summer Institute, which assists educators in creating an inclusive and culturally relevant learning environment for their students.

Wisconsin Union officials are placing further restrictions on areas where visitors to the Memorial Union Terrace can smoke cigarettes after weighing suggestions from Union members and patrons.

State

"What will survive budget battle?," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, June 10.

The Legislature's Joint Committee on Finance forwarded to the Senate a budget that would include funding for the Wisconsin Covenant -- a program wherein students who meet certain academic and nonacademic standards will be guaranteed admission into a Wisconsin college or university -- and UW System resident tuition increases of 5 and 3 percent in each of the next two years.
