"Added college money backed," Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, June 6.

The Legislature's Joint Finance Committee on Tuesday approved $149 million of state money for UW campuses; if approved by the full Legislature and Governor, initiatives will benefit the Chippewa Valley through more science faculty and labs for UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stout, improved nursing education, and systemwide teacher education and faculty recruitment and retention funding.

On Campus

"UWM to raise money for land," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, June 7.

UW-Milwaukee is taking steps to acquire land for a proposed $143 million engineering campus; if negotiations continue to proceed successfully, local leaders anticipate the expansion could boost the region's economy.

"Plan to increase size of UW-La Crosse takes big step forward," WKBT La Crosse, June 6.

The UW-La Crosse growth and access plan, which will enable the campus to enroll more students, keep class sizes small by hiring more faculty, and increase diversity, moves on to the assembly and senate for consideration.

State

"Skill training can bolster state economy," Editorial, Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, June 6.

This editorial supports increased state funding of the UW System so that campuses can keep tuition low and have the resources needed to educate students in key fields, such as nursing, teacher education, and engineering; these skilled professions will provide high-paying jobs for graduates that will benefit state citizens and improve the economy.

"All state Blue Books now online," Wisconsin State Journal, June 7.

Wisconsin's Blue Book, a biennial publication of the state's government dating back to 1853, goes online today as a free, searchable database.
