A proposed legislative bill would require the UW System Board of Regents to be comprised of members who represent each of the state's congressional districts.

On Campus

"Entire state would benefit from national lab siting," Editorial, Racine Journal Times, May 23.

This editorial notes that locating a proposed National Agricultural and Bio-defense Research lab at a site southeast of Madison where two other university research labs are located would bring research and construction jobs to the area, and boost Wisconsin's agribusiness industry.

"UW-Rock lauds teachers, alumnus," Janesville Gazette, May 22.

UW-Rock County honors two distinguished teachers and an outstanding alumnus with annual campus awards.

"UW-WC course-casting system WildCast drawing interest from other schools, creators say," West Bend Daily News, May 22.

Other universities are interested in UW-Washington County's homegrown course-casting system, which makes recordings of course lectures available to anyone via the campus library website.

Award-winning actor and alumnus Andre De Shields gave an uplifting commencement address for UW-Madison's Class of 2007; this year's graduates include international volunteers, business entrepreneurs and community leaders.

Homeowners who live near UW-Milwaukee say they would have liked to know more about plans to construct a new facility in a former UWM parking lot; the Board of Regents approved the project in April.

A judge ruled that it would be in the public interest to release records that detail why a UW-Stevens Point professor was removed as chair of an academic department.

State

Graduates from a UW-Extension program are now prepared to be leaders in the community.

A study shows many middle schoolers who intend to go to college do not know which college-preparatory courses they need to take; the study was funded by the "KnowHow2Go" campaign, which seeks to help students learn how to prepare for college. (subscription required)

The University of California recognizes a need for increased resources to support student mental health services.
