"Are engineering degrees in UW-Waukesha's future?" Waukesha Freeman, March 28.

In partnership with UW-Platteville, UW-Waukesha may begin to offer engineering degrees at the two-year college as soon as Spring 2008; UW-Waukesha is also partnering with UW-Stout to offer other technology-related degrees as part of its increased efforts to provide an educated workforce for the Waukesha area.

Using a two-story magnetic plasma chamber, UW-Madison scientists have made a discovery that could make fusion a commercial energy source.

"Consortium aims to change drinking culture," La Crosse Tribune, March 27.

The La Crosse Medical Health Science Consortium, of which UW-La Crosse is a founding partner, is embarking on a project to reduce alcohol-related injuries in the region and combat a drinking culture.

"Plan 2008 author retires," Badger Herald, March 28.

Bernice Durand, UW-Madison vice provost for climate and diversity, announced she will retire after 37 years on campus.

An editorial encouraging state political and higher education officials to use the results of a Wisconsin Technical College System salary audit wisely, emphasizing that Wisconsin must maintain the quality of its higher education institutions.

National

"Top candidate to head USM named," The Sun Herald, March 28.

UW-Whitewater Chancellor Martha Saunders has been recommended to take over the presidency of the University of Southern Mississippi; Chancellor Saunders grew up in Hattiesburg, Miss., and received her bachelor's degree from USM.
